The severe weather warning issued by the Met Office on Sunday for Monday and Tuesday, has been lifted for Lewes, for now…
The Met Office has put East Sussex on a yellow alert for both Monday and Tuesday.
Yellow is the first level of warning, with amber and red being the next two levels up. Experts at the Met Office had warned the bad weather conditions will continue into the early hours of Tuesday morning, however the winds have eased off.
The region experienced high winds on Monday night resulting in fences and greenhouses on the move – not at their owner's behest .
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service had a bust night dealing with resulting in 63 calls, with crews attending some 51 incidents throughout the night. Sussex Police said between 40 and 50 trees had fallen down overnight on Monday as a result of the winds, with several roads closed.
However, on Tuesday the yellow warning was lifted for the county with 40-50 mph winds expected and a large amount of precipitation likely.
In spite of the warning being lifted, for now, people should still keep an eye on the level of the River Ouse in nearby Lewes as it remains high and the coastline from Shoreham Harbour to Beachy Head remains under a flood warning from the Environment Agency.
And now for the bad news, the yellow threat has now been issued for the area for Thursday and Friday.
The Met predict: "Some sunshine at first on Thursday, but heavy rain and severe gales are expected later. Potentially stormy on Friday with sunny intervals and showers. Sunshine and wintry showers on Saturday."
