Hailsham has some excellent restaurants and pubs for eating

out in the town and some particularly good pub options in the surrounding
countryside.
Along with the many options to buy locally grown food from
local farm shops and delicatessens we are well served in this area.
With voting opening in the sixth annual Sussex Food and
Drink awards last week now is a good time to highlight some of the best
options.
You can vote for your favourite restaurant, your favourite
farm shop or your favourite food producer. Follow this link to vote for your
favourites.
Meanwhile, independent food producers in Sussex may soon be
able to sell their produce direct to the Co-operative supermarket if the
Southern Co-op's plans for a local produce hub go ahead. Find out more about
the plans for a local produce hub here.
Here is the lowdown on the best eating options in and around
Hailsham.
Restaurants
American
Route 22 on the
Polegate Road offers a different type of eating option. It has excellent diner
type of food with some nice touches such as home made side dishes. The
restaurant is very family friendly and the service is good too.
Chinese
Li's Cottage on
George Street has some of the best quality Chinese food in the area. Although
the prices are a little higher you certainly notice the difference on lots of
their dishes compared to others. If you want a really tasty treat this is
probably the best option in Hailsham.
French
The Sundial is a
lovely French Restaurant in Herstmonceux with views looking out onto the South
Downs. The quality of the cuisine is excellent and the restaurant has a superb
reputation locally. The restaurant itself has a lovely atmosphere and there are
some extremely interesting menu options such as Roast pork loin fillet and
oxtail terrine. If you have eaten there why not post a review here.
Italian
Prezzo has a
number of restaurants around East Sussex and is a decent option for Italian
food in Hailsham. Another bonus is that you can often find vouchers on the
internet to get the best deals for eating out at Prezzo's
Pub Food
is a lovely pub that serves a wide selection of food and a regularly changing
specials board. The pub is open for food seven days a week from 12-2pm and
7-9pm. The meat is sourced from local farms and the pub has a real character
and atmosphere to it. There is a dessert for everyone!
is located in Berwick and has a wonderful garden and is a lovely pub with a
great interior. The food options are usually mouth-watering and there is a wide
variety on the menu. There Spanish Platter is a particular favourite of mine
and they do some good steaks too.
is stunning to look at, has a good-sized garden and a nice atmosphere inside.
Generous portions and a good menu are on offer too. They serve excellent roasts, lovely big pies
and the specials board changes daily.
Farm shops
is a great place to visit to enjoy a summer activity that everyone should try
at least once. Picking fruit is fun and cheaper than getting it at the
supermarket in many cases. Tendring Fruit Farm have excellent quality fruit and
it is a lovely setting.
Butchers
Sussex Larder caters for people with food allergies and
their lovely meat meets the recommended nutrient target set out by government
for sodium/salts & fats. It contains no hydrogenated fats, colours or
preservatives. Post a review here.
