    A sick seal has been put down by animal welfare experts after being found beached in Sussex. The 7ft (2.1m) adult grey seal was sighted close to the Hope Gap steps, near Seaford, on Sunday. An assessment of the seal on Monday found it to be extremely underweight with signs of cataracts. It also had numerous cuts from the rocks and had blood  on its rear flippers.     More than 50 sheep that wandered into Chiddingly village, near Hailsham, have been taken in by residents while Sussex Police trace the owners. Hugh Soper and his wife are looking after some 20 sheep and another couple have taken in more than 30 of the animals.   Mr Soper said that in spite of the sheep being 'lovable' he may now have to pay to have them destroyed.   He said: "If I'd known what I was letting...

    Police are warning Land Rover owners to ensure their vehicles are secure after a spate of thefts in Rother, Wealden and Lewes districts over the weekend. In the early hours of Friday 19 April it was reported that someone had attempted to steal a Land Rover in Grove Hill, Hailsham.
